Fundraising to Save the

Cabinet

The campaign needs to raise funds to help resist the planning appeal as effectively as possible.  The developer who owns The Cabinet has assets and ready access to expensive lawyers and planning experts.  The Save the Cabinet Action Group is a small community group that depends on the goodwill of supporters to raise money for the expert help we need to stand any chance of matching the developer’s resources.  The developer’s appeal will take the form of a Public Inquiry - a formal process similar to a court case - involving lawyers and experts, as well as witnesses.  Paying for lawyers and experts will be expensive.  This is why we have launched the Save the Cabinet Fighting Fund The community response has been fantastic.  Through a combination of direct donations, fundraising events such as pop-up pub nights, a golf day and use of an online “JustGiving” page we have already raised (and partially spent) nearly £16,000.  We estimate we need to raise a further £12,500 before the Inquiry in November. This will need to cover, among other things: Representation by a barrister at the appeal A planning expert A surveyor to provide expert evidence on viability These do not come cheaply, but the Action Group has chosen its representatives and experts with great care so as to ensure the right balance between value for money and the quality of expertise we need. We have relaunched our JustGiving page.  It’s quick and easy to donate online. You can also donate by cheque payable to the Save the Cabinet Action Group, or by BACS (please email us for details).  Or you can donate at one of our events such as a Pop-up Pub night.
